Project: Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop
Building a website for the bakeshop dreams are made of
-
In 2019, Amanda Rockman, a James Beard Award nominee and an absolute culinary powerhouse, shared with me her dream of a destination for elevated pastries, bold energy, and unforgettable treats. Over the next few years, I was honored to play a role in helping her develop a strategy and brand that reflected her passion for meticulous craftsmanship and playful creativity. As COVID-19 and other global and local curveballs came our way, we adapted and kept the dream alive until every detail of the plans for Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop, from its warm and welcoming vibe to its spirited branding, absolutely oozed Amanda’s vision. I knew that the website would need to be just as exceptional, while keeping operations simple for her team, and creating an engaging experience for her customers.
-
Through my conversations with Amanda, I gained a deep understanding of her goals, her vision for the bakeshop’s day-to-day operations, and the creative spirit she wanted to bring to the site. With that foundation, I built a website that balances clarity, functionality, and personality, while giving her team tools to easily manage and grow the features they need over time.
-
Key Information Up Front: I ensured that the essentials, like location, hours, photography, and vibe, were clear and accessible, giving customers everything they needed to know before visiting. The text-based menu is easy for customers to access, and simple for the Rockman team to update as-needed without outside help.
Streamlined Communication: I developed tailored contact forms, including a hiring submission form for prospective team members.
Integrated Online Ordering: I consolidated all online ordering options into intuitive, easy-to-navigate pathways. Customers can easily use the website to place everyday orders, submit custom cake requests, purchase gift cards, and shop Rockman’s curated merch collection.
A Digital Reflection of Rockman: Vibrant visuals, playful design, and thoughtful storytelling bring Amanda’s energy and creativity to life online, strengthening the connection between the brand and customers.
-
I designed the Rockman website to evolve alongside the business. The site is easy for Amanda and her team to update, and equipped to support the team’s long-term goals while staying true to the bakeshop’s unique spirit.
-
This website empowers Amanda and her team with easy-to-use tools, and the resulting customer experience plays an active role in the success of this vibrant, creative business.

Project: Rangerstitch
Stitching up some efficient systems
-
RangerStitch is a Nashville-based chainstitch embroidery shop run by Rachel Kate and Matt Davidson. They’d put their original website to excellent use over the past several years, but business had grown in that time, and they asked me to pick up the thread and help them get their website to do more for them.
-
Over the years, snippets of content had been added in scattered places, leading to irregular spacing, mismatched sizes, and inconsistent colors. My first step was to streamline. I reorganized information so that clients could quickly find the service they were looking for, and I established defaults for typefaces, colors, and styles to create a more cohesive voice across the site.
Then came the overhaul to the client inquiry process. RangerStitch’s old “Contact Us” form was too general, forcing Matt and Rachel Kate into endless back-and-forth emails to gather basic details. Together, we designed new inquiry forms tailored to each service, asking the right questions up front, and providing clear expectations. This shift dramatically cut down on admin work, helped clients self-select the right service, and allowed Matt, Rachel Kate, and their team to move faster from inquiry to confirmed project.
-
Clarity for Visitors: Clear pathways to the three core offerings (custom chainstitch, live events, digital embroidery) so clients know exactly where to go.
Consistency for the Brand: Cleaned up old inconsistencies in spacing, colors, and styles, and built a more stable foundation for future additions.
Efficiency for the Team: New contact forms that save time and reduce repetitive communication by sharing and capturing the most important information from the first contact.
-
The refreshed RangerStitch website is simple, approachable, and built for the way the shop really works. By focusing on clarity and efficiency over flash, this site shows that the right tools don’t need to be complicated to make a difference.

Project: The Bubble
Designing a website for a historic recording studio
-
When Alex Lyon approached me about creating a new website for The Bubble, a historic recording studio in Austin, Texas, he had a sense that his website definitely needed some tweaks, but he didn’t realize how much his entire workflow could be transformed in the process. My goal was to design a site that not only reflected the studio’s unique personality, but also streamlined his day-to-day operations, saving him time and energy for what he loved most: mastering audio.
-
Understanding the Studio’s Needs:
I began by getting to know Alex, his work habits, and his pain points. I learned about his inquiry and client onboarding processes, and I dug into and the ways important information about the studio was currently being shared online. Through our conversations, we came up with organic solutions that resulted in simple but impactful changes that made Alex’s work life easier.Showcasing the Studio’s Personality: The Bubble’s charm lies in its meticulous design by architectural acoustic legend Mark Genfan, and its hidden-in-plain-sight Hyde Park neighborhood setting. I brought the studio’s warmth and character to life on the website by incorporating updated brand elements and professional photographs that highlighted its unique personality and appeal.
Streamlining Operations:
I created a custom inquiry process with tailored contact forms, cutting down on unnecessary back-and-forth, and making it easier for clients to move from interest to booking.Creating an Immersive Experience:
To give potential clients a feel for the studio’s atmosphere, we embedded a playlist of music recorded in The Bubble, showcasing both the sound quality and the incredible roster of artists who had gotten the chance to record their work there.Organizing Information:
I ensured that every detail about The Bubble, from its equipment to its amenities, was easy to find, making the website a comprehensive resource for prospective clients. -
The new website became a dynamic hub that reflected The Bubble’s character and simplified its operations. Alex gained a professional, functional online presence that supported his business goals and freed him to focus on creating music.
This project was a pleasure to work on, not just because of the studio’s unique history and charm, but also because it gave me the opportunity to help Alex create meaningful change for himself, his team, and the many artists who came into The Bubble.
